Today i came across another old-time command line program which generates ascii text or what we can alternatively call as ascii art. The program is called figlet. Using it is also very easy, you just have to pass the text to be generated in ascii as argument. But please note that it may not be already installed on your linux distro by default and you may have to download and install it.It also provides lots of font options (you have to download them, small files), and you will get plenty of style for the generated text.
So you ask what is the use of such a program? you can use it to generate custom email signature (fixed width emails, i.e. plain text not the html ones), or you can use it in sites to post comments, for example following the current trend you can use it to post scaps in scrapbooks in orkut. Revert to the past days with the ascii art generating tool ‘figlet’.
