@Anupama : You hit the nail in the head, reservations are more about political mileage than for actual benefit of the needy.

i believe that this system is a big black spot on our society.India is a democratic nation that is every one is equal before law.But this system is creating an environment of discrimination, this time gheneral class people are the suffereres.
if we are really worried about the upliftment of people belonging to backward classes.Their educational standards should be raised by making education free for them.
here the worst sufferers have been those poor people belonging to general category who do not enjoy any reservation on the basis of economic status and they bear the stigma of forward caste.

It's a high time to take a hard look at the entire gamut of reservation and deploitice it.INDIA when marching ahead with constant growing economy,it needs efficient working hands instead of recruiting the candidates on the basis of reservation...

The introduction of reservations must surely have been for positive reasons but I feel that presently the system is further dividing the society and developing a deep inherent doubt amongst the majority about the minority which is worsening the situation overall.

A reserved category student might ask " Is it really worth it?". Yes one could land into some top-notch institutes, get into good jobs and all that but would this success(or upgradation) erase out the only fact that one belongs to a reserved category and would it change the perspective of people(the majority) towards you. I seriously doubt it!

I feel that the fundamentals of our country have been such that it completely negates the possibility of success of reservations unless and untill the thinking process is altered altogether.

@Ajay : Restrict the quota to one person in a family! There are so many loopholes which can be encountered in this something as simple as if you have two siblings who would get the opportunity? If a person who has used the quota to get a seat in the college and does not do well, should he be given a second opportunity when he comes for a government job?
