FM radio has taken the fancy of almost everyone, with music available 24×7, it is easy to get plug in your earphones and listen to the songs and the blabbering of the RJ’s. If you go anywhere in Bangalore you will see people listening to radio, not just people walking in streets, but those inside shops, buses and where ever you can imagine.
There are currently 10+ FM radio channels in Bangalore which offer music in English, Hindi and of course the local language Kannada. Then you have film music, classical music and also educational programs. But one genre I am missing is that of news.
There is no news channel available, only music and education. There is a news broadcast on the AIR FM broadcast every hour, but it is a pain to wait. I still don’t know why no news channel has been launched, may be because government does not allow private players to broadcast news.
I don’t understand one thing, when you have so many private news channel, why cant we have then air an radio channel. If you are unaware of the FM channels available in Bangalore, please scroll down. Hoping to have a news channel soon….Till then….classical music is the way to go.

Hi Nithin, I absolutely agree with you about the missing news segment on FM. I really find it very strange, as there are I am sure people like me who do not have access to TV and our source of news is only the radio. However, another segment I greatly miss is old Hindi film songs from 60s and 70s. No dedicated FM station for that, greatly missed by a lot of listners in Bangalore, I am sure. Vividh Bharti stots are also taken up by Kannada progs, very few transmitted in Hindi, just not enough!
Btw very useful listing of channels, tks.

Hi Anitha, I agree with you on Old Hindi Songs and the news segments….but with the new plans that have been drafted by the govt it looks like things will change once these are implemented.

One more question… Why’s FM most widely used than AM ??
November 9th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
@Santosh: I do not know about the AM and FM radio in that detail, it is better to contact your science teacher for the answer, else just do a search you should be able to get the answer.

LISTEN TO LIVE VIVIDH BHARATHI RADIO ON THE WEB FROM BANGALORE, INDIA:
Hi
Listen Online to Vividh Bharathi Radio, Live on the Web.
I run a radio station from Bangalore, India on the Web.
All India Radio,Vividh Bharathi is broadcast in Stereo, on FM on 102.90 Mhz. in Bangalore, I generally relay on the web the Hindi Music played on Vividh Bharathi from 13.30 UTC ( 19.00 Hrs Local time ). It is a live broadcast of Vividh Bharathi, it is not a recording. A 24 hour live Digital feed of Vividh Bharathi is also available to suit listeners across the various Time Zones, right across the globe.
To listen to my radio station you have to register on the Global Tuners web site, IT’S FREE ! Their web site is http://www.globaltuners.com/ or else google it, IT’S FREE !
Register on their web site, it’s one of the best in the world, most of their receivers are PC controlled , so that a user can tune and listen to these receivers from his/her own computer, irrespective of where he/she is in the world, a few receivers are audio only nodes, like my Radio Bangalore.
After logging in to Global Tuners web site you have to select Radio Bangalore from their list of receivers to listen to my receiver.
Apart from FM stations of Bangalore, I also relay medium wave broadcast of regional stations of All India Radio.
I have a 4 Foot loop antenna some 30 feet off the ground which works pretty good on Medium wave. For FM I have a FM Dipole antenna, which gives excellent reception for the local FM stations
Any doubts you can please get in touch with me at daverohitb@hotmail.com

Bangalore badly need a good hindi FM station. I dont know why being a cosmopolitan city, all the radio stations mostly plays Kannada. Pls understand, I am not against Kannada, but there are millions in the city who grew up listenning to hindi music and this city has given us everything. Cant this city afford to offer just 1 FM station dedicated for hindi music?
February 26th, 2010 at 9:35 pm
@Shuvan: It all depends on the profitability of the radio station, it seems like running hindi music station does not work out. I remember when Fever 104 was launched it was a hindi songs only radio station, now it has done a complete flip and now it is a kannada only. So it depends on the business side of things.
