After a 2 month long break from blogging…I am back….And writing this from a city which was once called the Garden City and the Pensioners Paradise, and now the IT Capital of India….I am of-course talking of ‘Namma Bengaluru’. I am here for my project work which is a part of our Post Graduation Curriculum. My experience here has been mostly good, so let me write about some of the things about the city.

Accommodation

Whenever one moves to a new city the first thing one needs is a place to stay, well Bangalore has lots of Paying Guest (PGs) options available for both Students and Working men and women in all the areas. The PGs generally are the ideal option for all, the only drawback would be the cleanliness of the place, though most of the ones are clean and well maintained, some of them are not. The rates charged depends on the facilities and ther area but they are reasonable, and food is taken care for by the PGs. If you are like me, then PGs are not too suited for your lifestlye, then you can take up rooms/flats for rent, but finding a good one with reasonable advance amounts and rent is a difficult proposition and will involve much searching, but you will certainly find one like I did.

Transportation

Bangalore is a big city and to move from one place to another, one has to depend on the public transportation system if one does not have a bike or car. The bus system is good here and the fares are reasonable, if you want to go around and have a trip of the city then do buy the Daily Pass which costs Rs 25/- and is well worth the amount, considering you can travel on any city bus on any route for the day. Another transport is Autorikshaws, there are many of them and are really handy if you have luggage or if you are in a hurry. The only problem is that many of the Autorikshaw drivers are choosy about the destination they are ready to go to, hence you may sometimes have to wait and roam around a bit till you find one who is willing to go where you want to go.

Infrastructure

Infrastructure has been the point of problem for Bangalore, with the population increasing, the it is slowly catching up and getting a bit better. Many roads are in good shape, new footpaths and roads are being laid in many place I have been. But the large number of private vehicles on the roads causes all the traffic jams, this can be solved only by having a even better Mass Transport System, which will hopefully be the Metro rail, the work of which is going to begin in a few days.

Other Amenities

Drinking water comes once in two days, which is not bad considering the situation in other cities. Electricity has been there through out except for a few instances when it was out for a couple of minutes. Household garbage is collected from each house which is of great help since it keeps the neighborhoods clean. But the main problem currently seems to be the dog menace which has hit the city very badly and the state administration is still in loss of ideas on how to handle it.

Hotels/Restaurants

Fast food/Quick service joints are the ones you will find in every nook and corner of the city. The serve all kinds of food items, but since they are self service you will have to eat standing (which serves the purpose and saves space for the hotel). The number of reasonably priced hotels where you can sit and eat are very few. So there is plenty of choice with respect to self-service places, and the food provided by these places is also good.

I would have written a lot more….but I do not want to write pages and pages on it….already it has come to close to one page. I will write more in some other post.
