Everyone in Mangalore knows about the poor state of roads here and how dangerous it can be for the people riding the vehicles. But how many of you know that the roads are equally dangerous for the people walking on these roads.
Here’s why…last week when I was walking, a passing bus fired a reasonably big stone from the pothole towards me at good speed, which luckily missed my leg and bounced off my footwear. I just wonder how many people have had such scary experiences, there should be many undoubtedly. If you think this is all, well no….in many Indian cities we have a culture of filling the potholes with mud or stones.
The result, roads become more dirty when it rains and dust flies around when it is not raining. I have had many instances when dust particles have fallen into my eyes and hindered my vision when crossing roads. Also it is now risky for people riding the two wheelers to ride without glasses on. In general, when people used to walk on roads some years back, they were trying to avert being splashed with water, but today the challenges are more, it about fighting for you health, life and reaching safely to your destination.
Ps. There are certain roads in Mangalore (concrete) which are in excellent condition, for ex the road which leads to the City Corporation office.

Totally agree with you dude. Had been to Mlore this weekend. The roads were horrible, except for the concrete roads, everything else is screwed…. although dad was mentioning 40 crores has been allocated for the road repairs 2 days back. Even the Mlore to Hassan route is pretty bad, especially the ghat section. Lots of jams happening in the ghats section, and the buses reach 3-5 hrs late everyday now. Hope everything is repaired soon
